8th of March, 2014 One of my favorite websites to check for interactive teaching resources is ReadWriteThink. Several of its tools have been featured in previous posts on this site. Today, I’ll show you five fantastic interactive apps that can assist you in engaging your kids in online literacy instruction. You may use these online tools for a number of reasons, ranging from helping pupils organize their ideas to aiding them with language acquisition.
1- Map of the Story
A collection of visual organizers is included with the Story Map interactive to aid instructors and students in prewriting and postreading tasks. The organizers are designed to help students concentrate on the creation of character, setting, conflict, and resolution. Students may create numerous characters as part of their preparation for writing their own fiction, or they can reflect on and expand on characters from tales they’ve read. Students may print out their final copies for comments and evaluation after completing specific parts or the whole organizer. This tool’s flexibility enables it to be utilized in a variety of situations.
The plot diagram is an organizing tool that maps the events of a narrative using a pyramid or triangle form. Readers and writers may see the main elements of tales with this plot structure mapping. Aristotle defined the fundamental triangle-shaped narrative structure that represents the beginning, middle, and conclusion of a tale. Aristotle’s method was modified by Gustav Freytag, who added a rising and falling motion to the framework. Both Aristotle’s and Freytag’s conceptualizations of plot structures are supported in this interactive version of the graphic organizer.
This online exercise is intended to assist beginning and struggling readers in recognizing word patterns as well as learning about onset and rime. Students are asked to choose a vowel before being given a list of words to classify into short-vowel word groups. After that, students may print their finished word family chart and practice reading the words fluently with it.
4- Make Up A Word
Construct-a-Word allows students to create hundreds of distinct words by first selecting an ending (for example, -an, -ed, -at, -op) and then adding a starting letter or blend. When a student creates a proper term, it is saved in a Word Bank where they may read and study it. Construct-a-Word asks students to come up with 6 to 14 alternative potential words for each ending, providing a layer of fun and exploration. It utilizes simple and easy-to-master prompts and combines animation and music to assist students through the stages of word creation. Individually or in small groups, this interactive tool may be utilized in a single session or over many sessions.
The Persuasion Map is a visual organizer that students may use to plan out their points for a persuasive essay or debate. Students start by deciding what they want to achieve or what their thesis is. They then come up with three arguments to back up their claim, as well as three facts or instances to back up each one. Instead of working in a linear manner, students may travel about the globe using the map graphic in the top right-hand corner. The map may be saved, emailed, or printed after it has been completed.
